Sensations Crisps Flavours

Thai Sweet Chilli

Each crisp bears the homely scent of fried onions, chillis and herbs roasting in a pan. On tasting, you’ll experience a juicy sweetness which provides a perfect contrast for the spicy kick that builds, as chillis spark and dance on the tongue.

Roasted Chicken & Thyme

First, enjoy the comforting, cosy aroma of roasted chicken. Then savour the flavour, before citrusy notes from the lemon cleanse the palate, leaving you to relish the lingering flavour of thyme.

Balsamic Vinegar & Caramelised Onion

The sweet smell of caramelised onions leads into a sharp bite from the balsamic vinegar upon tasting. As the juiciness returns, the combination of sweetness and lingering sourness provides a deliciously distinctive finale.

Vintage Cheddar & Chutney

The initial dairy aromas are followed by heavier notes from the cheddar. These are then cleansed by the sweetness of the fruity chutney, making way for the tang of a red onion finish.

Southern Style Barbeque

First you’ll notice the smoky, slightly sweet aroma. The initial taste provides notes of cooked tomato and juicy sweetness. This gives way to a hot ‘n spicy kick, with a return of the smokiness which lingers at the end.

Buffalo Mozzarella & Herb

Open the pack and breathe in the scent of fragrant basil. Taste the aromatic herbs, leading into creamy sweetness from the mozzarella. Let your tastebuds come full-circle, as you return to the summery, fresh notes of basil.

Oriental red curry

The instant citrusy tang of lemongrass jolts the senses. Coconut notes then bring the suggestion of curry to the palate, followed by the sour mix of ginger and soy sauce. The far-eastern flavour journey comes to an end as ginger and chilli combine providing a spicy lift.

Lime & Coriander Chutney poppadums

Savour the zesty aroma of lime juice and fresh coriander leaf. As the poppadum hits your tongue, sweet and juicy notes give way to hints of curry from the coriander seed, leading to a spicy hit and a lingering lime juice finish.

Peking spare ribs

The mouth-watering aroma of smoky, sweet pork hits you first. Then ginger and pepper tingle your tastebuds with a spicy heat, making way for a distinctively Oriental aniseed finish.

Flavourology

‘What is it?’ you ask. Is it a science or an art? Well actually, it’s sort of both. It’s the delicious area where science meets art, and the Einstein behind the Sensations range is Eapen George.

As our chief flavourologist, it’s Eapen’s mission to make Sensations crisps into much more than a snack. He wants each crisp to take you on a ‘flavour journey’, a sensory experience which leaves you with a new and improved perception of taste appreciation.

The thinking behind the flavourology process is based on linking flavours to emotions through the engagement of the senses. During those valuable milliseconds it takes to register, an ingredient can access a feeling, an aspiration or a memory. The warm aroma of roasted chicken may remind you of your mum’s kitchen, or the tingling aftertaste of chilli might arouse your far-eastern wanderlust. A flavour you can taste will never resonate as much as one you can feel.

So how do our flavourologists map out a ‘flavour journey’? They work off the principle that our sense of taste is stimulated by contrast and change. When creating the complex flavours of the Sensations range, they drew parallels from other intricate taste combinations. Ever noticed the palate-cleansing properties of mint sauce when served with lamb? Or when grapes accompany cheese? How about those initial buttery, milky qualities in a glass of Chardonnay, which then give way to hints of minerals, with an oaky finish? By carefully sequencing ingredients, the flavourologists realised that crisps could provide just as delicate and varied flavour combinations as a white wine. As long as the person tasting the crisp took a moment to appreciate what their tastebuds were experiencing. Because it’s often not what you eat, but how you eat it that lets flavour unfold.

About Sensations

Sensations launched in 2002 as Walkers’ finest range of crisps and became an instant favourite with the British public. The new crunchier crisp combined with some unique and exotic flavours made them irresistible to millions of households across the nation. People couldn’t get enough of flavours such as Thai Sweet Chilli and Roasted Chicken with Lemon & Thyme.

Walkers Sensations are famous for their fun and eye-catching advertising. Gary Lineker famously teamed up with Victoria Beckham for the launch advert, whilst other stars to have been involved include Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Charlotte Church.

Always innovative, the success of Sensations Potato Crisps was followed by the launch of Sensations Crackers in 2003 and Sensations Poppadoms in 2004. The range was further extended due to popular demand in 2007, with the limited launch of Sensations Corn Chips - sophisticated corn tortillas infused with poppy seeds. The newest addition to the Sensations' family came with the launch of Szechuan Spice flavoured crisps in 2008 - a warming and aromatic oriental flavour that's sure to excite anyone’s tastebuds.

Now in 2009, we are taking the opportunity to refresh the brand once again; a new look, new flavours, no artificial ingredients and some really exciting advertising. So with 7 potato crisps and 2 snack flavours to choose from, a different bag size for on the go in the day or for sharing together in the evening, it is unsurprising that Walkers Sensations are the Number 1 premium crisp brand that Brits love sharing with their friends.
